Video: HRP-4C fashion model robot

The HRP-4C, a walking, talking humanoid fashion model fembot developed by Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), is ready for the runway. (Watch her strut her stuff.)

With 30 motors in her body, the 158-centimeter (62-in) tall, 43-kilogram (95-lb) HRP-4C can walk around and strike a range of poses.

The black-haired robot also has 8 motors in her face, allowing her to wow the crowds with expressions of simple emotions like anger and surprise.

HRP-4C is scheduled to make her official runway debut in a special fashion show in Tokyo next week, though she will not be wearing any clothes.

But really, who needs clothes with a body like that?

I can see how robots like this become popular for a whole other range of purposes than those Honda originally thought of…

They just need to put some more motors in the head and make it open the mouth more…

Then it could be used for vacuuming the apartment (or what were YOU thinking of?).

Cool idea. Not sure of the utility. Save money paying models? She’s prob cool enough on her own, though she could *definitely* have a cuter butt!

Actually its used to make money, they hope that it will attract more people. they’re think if they put her on the runway that they will make close to 200 dollars more money.

Its a great robot, its great because you can have a conversation with it, and it answers you and responds like a human except with out the ignoring part =D

Why didn’t they cover the rest of the body with that skin coloured stuff , or paint the metal or something ,then it’d look less creepy O_O . The angry facial expression doesn’t look very angry :P .

This is really awesome, but also creepy. Especially the way she can walk. And her facial expressions! Kudos to the designers and scientists who did this. It’s amazing. By 2020 I bet they’ll be perfect… I just hope that they don’t get minds of their own if it ever becomes possible…

This is and absolute waste of money, you should think about what you spend time on. There are much more important things to focus on.

This is a great robot, i mean it looks real from what i’ve seen in videos sounds real and reacts and responds as if it were really a human. the sad thing is that it reminds me of Irobot and it may go rouge XD

In October (over a month ago) I saw on Youtube that they’ve developed a new software program that allows her to sing songs similar to the way we humans learn music! I can’t wait to see how sophisticated this robot will get in the upcoming years! I can understand all of you afraid of the “Uncanny Valley.” Me personally, I support this kind of development.
