  Are these trucks really running on the Japanese roads? Or do they stand there only for decorations?

  Yes, you sometimes see them on highway.
  As you can imagine, those decorations are not cheap.

  That means;
  1) you'd better earn some money to decorate your truck
  2) once decorated you don't want your truck to get damaged
  3) you want to keep your truck look nice all the time

  The result;
  All those decotora drivers are skilled and hardworking,
  their driving manners are exemplary.

  Oh come on, people, those things look absolutely ridiculous.

  The Japanese try to outdo the west in all things, and it usually works out well. We make factories, they make them more efficient and effective. We make electronics, they make them smaller and more elegant. We make cars, they make them better looking and more reliable.

  But I wish they wouldn't apply the same philosophy to our more embarrassing cultural traits. We didn't need our big ugly chrome-covered land yachts taken to the next level.

  I've been happily digging through your archives this afternoon and finding nuggets like these trucks I had never heard of. Thanks as always! The next time I'm in Wildwood New Jersey I'll try to snap some pictures of the old arcade games which must have the same DNA.
