There is a mailbox located underwater off the coast of Susami in Wakayama prefecture.
The mailbox is not some old sunken relic, but an actual mail collection point officially recognized as part of Susami's postal system.
Each day the contents are collected from the box, which reportedly contains as many as 200 pieces of mail at the busiest times.

Why? Is there some reason why someone would have to suit up and dive for the mail rather than keep it on land? Also, how do they keep it dry?

why? harder to get at, least likely to have missing mail ;)
how do they keep it dry? are you really asking that?
ziplock bags!

Are mails getting through there have something to do with fish food, underwater geologists and submarine crew letters from loved ones?
